“I will not rescue you, for you are not powerless.
I will not fix you, for you are not broken.
I will not heal you, for I see you in your wholeness.
I will walk with you through the darkness, as you remember your light.”

– A Medicine Woman’s Prayer by Sheree Bliss Tilsley

Introduction:

I am a clinical psychologist with over 12 years of experience in working with children, parents (caregivers), adolescents and adults in both private practice and in a psychiatric institution context.

I have found that therapy can touch the corners of our souls, to be on a journey with someone. I believe in the process and not necessarily in the designation (goals or aims) of living. I believe in self-compassion, and that we must have compassion for ourselves to grow and to continue on our journey.

Depression and anxiety icon 1

Depression and anxiety

When a therapeutic relationship is established the relationship is used to explore aspects of a person’s past in depth and to show how it has led to the current depression and anxiety. Understanding this link between past and present (through insight) helps to resolve depression and anxiety, and to make a person less vulnerable to becoming depressed and anxious again.

Adults icon

Adults

Psychological therapy with adults is a journey together with a therapist into a person’s internal world of thoughts, feelings and experiences. Through the exploration of one’s internal world within a therapeutic relationship, a process of healing and well-being can unfold. It requires honesty and authenticity from oneself to process some of the past hurts along with current experiences.

Childhood trauma icon

Childhood trauma

Childhood trauma therapy aims to recognise and emphasise understanding how the traumatic experience as a child impacts a person’s mental, behavioural, emotional, and physical well-being. To help with the processing of trauma both the body and the mind are given attention in therapy, as trauma is often experienced within the body.

Parenting support and skills icon

Parenting support and skills

Parenting support helps parents when they are faced with difficult moments in parenting. The therapy aims to help parents identify, address, and manage their own past or present experiences that may be affecting the way they relate to their child. In some cases, the therapy may also help parents better communicate between each other to maintain a cohesive and structured parenting approach. The therapy space provides a judgement-free zone for parents to discuss tough moments in parenting and learn how to better manage these tough moments moving forward. Overall, the therapy aims to provide parents with the necessary knowledge, tools, guidance, and support to take care of their children in the most ideal way possible.

Teenagers icon

Children and Teenagers

• Children (age 8 – 12)

Psychological therapy with children can include talking, playing, or other activities to help the child express feelings and thoughts. The therapy process usually starts with a comprehensive intake interview with the child’s legal guardians / primary caregivers, followed by a thorough evaluation of the child’s mental health (1 – 3 sessions) to figure out what type of therapy might work best.

• Teenagers (age 13 – 18)

Psychological therapy with teenagers helps adolescents deal with tough emotions and situations, mental health conditions, trauma, or concerns related to future, present, or past. The therapy process usually starts with a comprehensive intake interview with the teenagers’ legal guardians / primary caregivers, after which an interpersonal therapeutic.

Sandplay Therapy

Sandplay is a therapeutic method developed by Dora M. Kalff, in Zollikon, Switzerland. It is based on the psychological principles of C.G.Jung. Sandplay is a creative form of therapy using the imagination, “a concentrated extract of the life forces both physical and psychic.” (C.G.Jung) It is characterized by the use of sand, water and miniatures in the creation of images within a “free and protected space” of the therapeutic relationship and the sand tray. A series of Sandplay images portrayed in the sand tray create an ongoing dialogue between the conscious and the unconscious aspects of the client’s psyche, which activates a healing process and the development of the personality. This therapeutic method may be successfully applied to individual work with both adults and children.

I stayed at Zwavelstream for almost 2 weeks, I was discharged on the 6th of October 2023. When I arrived Nicholus at Reception was an absolute star in dealing with all the admin, and to make sure I knew where to go and what to do. Dr Louis Roos has been my Psychiatrist for 9 years already. I live in Boksburg and will follow him wherever he goes. He is instrumental in my treatment, as well as a Family member, who had seen him now for +-3 years. All I can say, he never gives up on his patient, and assists with any challenge you throw at him. What a dynamic Doctor! I will always be indebted to him as he treats me with love and care, and always been realistic in your holistic treatment. Tania Lombard van Huyssteen is excellent in trauma treatment and got me to really work on my trauma, trust me I have seen a few Phycologists in my 20 years in dealing with Bipolar. I will follow her wherever she goes. Her method of treatment is a next level indeed. Rohanne Muller, my OT. As special as she is, practical, understanding, and investing her full time and effort into her patient. All the Nurses were friendly and extremely helpful, but I have to name Mama Ruth and Eunice, what darling's they are, patient, loving, caring, and goes the extra mile. Well done Zwavelstream, in having the right people in positions of making a world of difference, in treating your patients, to give patients hope. These people are the best in their field! And the food was amazing as well :):):)

I recently had the privilege of staying at the Zwavelstrem Clinic and I cannot express how transformative and empowering the experience was. My journey to self-awareness and healing at this center was truly exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and compassion by the staff, creating an immediate sense of comfort and safety. The environment itself was serene and beautifully designed, promoting a peaceful and healing atmosphere. The therapeutic programs and activities offered were not only diverse but tailored to meet individual needs. Whether it was meditation sessions, group therapy, or one-on-one counseling, each component played a crucial role in my healing process. The professional and dedicated staff guided me every step of the way, providing valuable insights and tools for self-awareness and empowerment. One aspect that stood out was the emphasis on holistic wellness. The center incorporated various wellness practices such as movement, mindfulness, and nutritional guidance, which complemented the mental and emotional healing journey perfectly. This holistic approach left me feeling rejuvenated not only mentally but also physically and spiritually. The camaraderie and support I received from fellow residents were invaluable. Sharing experiences and insights with others on their healing journeys fostered a sense of community and solidarity, which added depth to the overall experience. I can confidently say that my stay at Zwavelstream was a turning point in my life. It provided me with the tools to better understand myself, manage my mental health, and embark on a path of self-empowerment. I left with a profound sense of gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose. I highly recommend Zwavelstream anyone seeking a transformative journey of self-awareness and healing. It is a place of genuine care, support, and growth that I will forever cherish. Thank you to the entire team for guiding me on this remarkable path to self-discovery and empowerment
