3 Ways to support women’s mental health

Even though women can do certain things to improve their mental health, society can also help support them. Below is a list of three ways how to support women’s mental health:

  1. Acknowledge the feelings of women

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, there are expectations for women to be pleasant, joyful and accommodating at all times. If a woman shows any negative emotion, it is generally improper or stated as irrational. As a result, it can harm a woman’s mental well-being.

Women are human and don’t have to be happy all the time; instead of criticising their emotions, a way to support women’s mental well-being is to accept and acknowledge their emotions and encourage them to let out what they feel.

  1. Raising awareness

To promote women’s mental health, people can educate themselves and others about the importance of women’s mental health. When raising awareness, it is important to work toward promoting a change in society’s views and support of women’s mental health.

  1. Leave out unrealistic expectations

In our society, the expectations of women cause lowered self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. However, there are ways that society can actively encourage women’s confidence and help them improve their mental well-being.

A good start to improving your mental health is by speaking to a mental health professional such as a therapist. Taking time to reflect on relationships with family and friends and determine whether they are supportive or destructive to your mental well-being can help improve your mental health.

Connecting with others can also prevent women from feeling alone when facing challenges. As well as, taking time for self-care is crucial to boosting mental health; this includes factors like exercise or mindfulness techniques.
